From Bloomington to Terre Haute ... and back again

If you came here, but don't feel like reading much, the title pretty much explains it all.

(Of course, that raises some serious questions about why you would come to a blog, yet not feel like reading much. But we'll let you mull that one over for a little bit.)

Typically, this would be where the gigantic "This is what we've done since our last major life-changing event" paragraph would go. But if you're reading this, chances are you either (A) already know what's been going on, or (B) don't care in the first place. So let's not bore you with our life story, and let's just start from January.

...Come to think of it, January was the most boring month so far this year. It basically consisted of Amanda going in and out of the hospital with complications due to the pregnancy. Matt was still working full time for the law firm in Terre Haute, but always looking for a way out. Towards the end of January, Amanda was ready to have the baby, because the one thing that she absolutely didn't want to happen was to have the baby on Groundhog Day. (Cue the obligatory "Did he see his shadow" jokes.)

Bradon was born on Groundhog Day - and don't say it, because Matt made the joke and it got him smacked. (No, he didn't see the shadow.)

Anyway, the newest member of our family, Bradon Ross, joined us on February 2, 2010 at 5:06 A.M., after a long night of waiting. He was two weeks early, but still 8 pounds 4 ounces and 21.5 inches long. Amanda is grateful to this date that he didn't wait another two weeks, or things could have gotten ugly.

Madison has been growing up so quickly, especially since Bradon was born. At first, she really wanted nothing to do with Bradon, but she got used to having him around pretty quickly and has turned into a great big sister - except when she takes his pacifier from him. By the end of February, Madison had finally gotten enough hair that we could start putting bows in (not that she leaves them there).

February started with an addition, March started with a subtraction. We're sad to say that Matt's gallbladder is no longer with us. For the last two weeks in February, Matt was constantly sick, with no real explanation as to why. Long story short, eventually Amanda convinced him to go to the doctor, some tests were run, and they figured out that he needed to have his gallbladder out. Matt had surgery on March 1 and spent a lot of time recovering - it turns out that those wonderful pain pills don't make you completely stop hurting.

After Matt fully recovered, he started his new job as an associate attorney for a law firm in Bloomington (if you're following along, this is the "back again"). The hours have been crazy, especially with the commute back and forth from Terre Haute to Bloomington, which led us to the ultimate decision that we'll be moving back to Bloomington once our lease in Terre Haute is up.

April brought us a couple of milestones. First, and probably the one we're the proudest of, is that Madison had her second dentist appointment - and she didn't bite the dentist! The first trip was an overall bad experience (we don't talk about it). Bradon also had his two-month checkup, and he's grown a lot. He weighed 13 pounds 1 ounce and was 23.5 inches long. He might have a little bit of a belly on him, but he's our Buddha baby and we love him just the way he is.

April also saw Maddy's second Easter, as well as Bradon's first. One thing that we'll miss about Terre Haute is the substantially less-creepy mall Easter bunny that the kids had their picture taken with. As far as the Easter festivities went, Bradon was less than thrilled. Maddy, on the other hand, loved looking for Easter eggs, although we're pretty sure she's got a complex now - she'll never be able to walk through the grass without looking for eggs.

Finally, Matt took a few days off of work to get the family up to Minnesota for Brandon and Michelle's wedding. We might have made it in early on Thursday morning if Matt hadn't gotten tired and asked to stop for the night to sleep. Amanda was driving since Matt had been at work all day, and to hear her put it, she was "in the zone." We got to town on Thursday afternoon and spent time with family and friends until the rehearsal on Friday night. After the rehearsal, the entire clan went to Famous Dave's for some pretty good barbecue and some good times before the wedding. The ceremony on Saturday was beautiful (Amanda will just have to take Matt's word on this one, for reasons that shamefully shall remain undisclosed here) and the reception was a blast. Madison turned out to be the life of the dance floor - watch out, Matt, you're going to have your hands full in 12 years.

In any case, we couldn't be happier for Brandon and Michelle. Who knows - maybe it won't be long before they're on here, setting up their own family blog.

In any case, that brings us up to May, which looks to be equally crazy between Mother's Day, Amanda's birthday, Madison's birthday, Matt's dad's birthday, and Memorial Day. But that's a story for another time and another update.
