Craziness

The last 3 weeks have been absolutely crazy.  It seemed like everything that possibly could go wrong went wrong and we hope that our down streak might be coming back up.

A few weeks ago I found a small red knot on my left leg.  At first, I didn't think much about it and went about my business.  A day later though my leg started swelling and became extremely painful to walk on.  I ended up calling my mom, because mom knows everything.  Mom said that she thought I need to go to the doctor, because it sounded like I had a blood clot.  I called my OB immediately after hanging up and I got the quickest appointment ever.  After going in the doctor diagnosed me with a superficial thrombophlebitis.  Which in lame man's term means a blood clot that is right under the skin's surface.  These types of blood clots rarely cause serious ailments, but can be quite painful.  I was instructed to take a baby aspirin a day, wear incredibly tight compression hoses, use warm compresses, and elevate my leg as much as possible. The doctor told me that these clots can take several weeks to go away, but that if I started having more issues to let him know.  A week later the clot was bigger, my leg was swelling more, and I was having all the symptoms of a deep vein clot.  So, I was rushed in to get a vascular ultrasound on my leg.  The ultrasound came back fine and it was determined that I had a very stubborn persistent superficial clot, but nothing more serious. As I write this today the clot is finally getting smaller, the swelling is minimal, and the pain is manageable.  Nothing like a clot to shatter any delusions I had about this being an uncomplicated pregnancy.  Everything besides the clot is going great.  The baby is doing great and seems to be completely unaware of the happenings outside his/her safe slumber.  I go back to the doctor on May 19th for a routine follow-up and May 18th I get the 20 week ultrasound to find out what we are having.

Madison has also had a rough few weeks.  The weekend before Easter Madison got her right ring finger shut into a door.  It completely ripped off the cuticle and her finger turned purple almost immediately.  She wouldn't let us mess with the finger and after discussing the situation with the urgent care office we were instructed to come in.  The thing about urgent care at a pediatrician's office on a Sunday is that you can and probably will be there forever.  We were finally seen after sitting in a back room for 1 hour 30 minutes with both kids.  Matt and I were going nuts and the kids were completely fed up.  The funniest thing that came out of this visit was when Matt got onto Maddy for doing something and Madison pointed her finger at him and said "Don't even start with me".  It was so hard not to laugh.  The doctor came and looked at her finger and completed x-rays.  Matt said she did really well, but I couldn't go in with her so I will have to take his word for it.  After almost 2 hours in urgent care we were told that her finger wasn't broken, but appeared to have dislocated and the swelling was keeping it from going back into place. They said we could buddy tape it or (since I don't know very many 3 year olds that will keep 2 fingers taped together) they said we could leave it alone and when the swelling went down the finger would drop back into place.  I'm happy to report that the swelling and bruising are finally down and her finger is now the same height as her other fingers.  We still aren't convinced that she won't lose her fingernail, but that is still to be seen.

Bradon is doing better, but has been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea.  He was given a nose spray that he is supposed to use twice a day for six weeks.  The doctor said that his tonsils did not appear to be enlarged, but that he felt the adenoids were the issue.  This nasal spray is supposed to help shrink the adenoids.  We already have noticed a huge difference.  Bradon is finally sleeping soundly and all night.  He no longer snores or chokes in his sleep.  The pediatrician informed us that he could refer us to an ENT (ear, nose, throat doctor), but that no ENT would not operate on someone his age unless absolutely medically necessary.  We are hoping and praying that this nose spray continues to work until surgery would be safer and not as risky. The pediatrician did say that ENT's prefer the child to be 3, but will sometimes perform surgery at 2.  Hopefully, he won't need surgery at all and over the upcoming months, years the adenoids will straighten themselves out.

Matt is working all the time it seems and with all the stress here at home it wasn't surprising when he got sick and had to call into work for the first time since starting in March of 2010.  It took him a couple days to get over whatever it was that he got, but it was just one more thing to add to the list.
