Alana Grace Raper

Alana Grace Raper was born on 10/6/11 at 7:23 pm. She weighed 7 lbs 14 oz (way smaller than the doctor thought she would be, not that I'm complaining) and measured 20 1/2 inches long. Labor was induced , but she took over 13 hours to arrive. It was a pretty uneventful labor except that I had low blood pressure issues, which caused her heart rate to drop and me to get pretty sick. I had to get several shots of ephedra to raise my blood pressure. The downside to the medicine was that I felt like my heart was going to beat out of my chest and that I was having a panic attack. The medicine also made Alana a little jittery after delivery. When Alana decided she was finally ready to come it took approximately 2 pushes for her to make her big arrival. Matt cut her umbilical cord & she got checked out right in the room.

Her & I had a very busy first night. I don't think either one of us slept very long. I was pretty nervous about my surgery on Friday morning. I had my tubal ligation surgery Friday morning and it was pretty uneventful. I was a little sore, but the worse part was the droggy, nauseous feeling I had for most of the morning. I had begged the doctor to be released Friday afternoon. Since Alana & I both were doing well Dr. Labban and Alana's pediatrician agreed to let us go. It was so great to sleep in my own bed and to have Matt & the kids around.

Adjusting to having a newborn & a third child has been interesting, but hasn't been as bad as we originally thought it would be. It's all about schedules and sticking to those schedules.
