After Alana's failure to thrive at her 4 month appointment we were scheduled for a 3 week follow-up. We had to increase her calories, keep a food log, and keep track of all wet & dirty diapers. When we took her in she went from 12lbs to 14 lbs 9 oz. She managed to gain 41 ounces in 22 days. The doctor was really impressed. We weren't really surprised, because we had noticed that she was finally get some weight to her and filling out clothes better. She also managed to grow a whole inch, which brings her length to 26 1/2 inches long. She is as long as Madison was at 6 months. Alana is now at the 50% mark and 95+% on height. The 50 % is a drastic improvement from her below 10$ at her 4 month.
The doctor is keeping her on her high calorie diet at least until he sees how she is doing at her 6 month appointment. I asked about why she needed so many calories to gain weight and he really couldn't give us an answer. I asked about possible heart conditions (both my brother and uncle have/had heart conditions) he said that he didn't think that was the issue. He is going to be monitoring her closely to make sure she continues to go up and not stall out again.
