Bradon's 2 Year Appointment

Bradon had his 2 year appointment on the 28th of February. This appointment was a very important appointment for the family. Bradon hasn't been talking. He excels in every area of development, except language. The doctor said at his 18 month appointment that if he wasn't talking at 2 we would start considering option, but that he always gives kids to at least 2 1/2.

The doctor came in and started talking with Bradon. It was mainly to see how he acted in conversation. He points, understands, has eye contact, mimics facial expressions, and interacts well. We completed an autism screening and thankfully it came back negative. Matt and I didn't think he was autistic, but had begin to wonder if that was just us, in denial. Dr. Moore said that he did not believe he was autistic on any level. What a relief!

The doctor did say that since Bradon babbles so much. He is constantly making noises, but no actual words (except mom and dad) that he wanted to getting his hearing checked. We occasionally question whether he can hear us or if he has very good selective hearing. We have been referred to a hearing specialist and that appointment will take place March 29th.

We go back to see the pediatrician when Bradon is 2 1/2. That will be the cut off for language delays. The doctor wants to see him talking by then. At that point we will discuss speech therapy and another medical condition which can cause the person to be able to hear, but not speak. He said that condition is very rare, but something he will have to look at if there are still major delays at 2 1/2.

We left the appointment somewhat relieve that it wasn't autism, but somewhat discouraged that we still don't know what is causing his language delays.

While the language was the most important discussion he also had his lead levels checked (they were good), and he was measured. He is now 37 1/2 inches tall & 30 lbs 14 oz. (Bigger than 90% of other kids his age)
