Family Update

Alana - She started walking about 2 weeks ago.  It started as 3 or 4 steps - here and there.  Then it increased to 5, then 10.  She still prefers to crawl or walk on her knees ( I have no idea how she does this), but she is capable of walking pretty well when she wants too.  She is getting into everything her new ability will let her reach.  Cabinets are being emptied, heads are being bumped, trash cans are being knocked over.  I think we spend most of the day chasing & cleaning up after our newest toddler.  She is officially bottle broke and loves drinking from sippy cups.  She is sleeping pretty regularly now & typically only wakes up at midnight to eat; then will go back to bed until 6 ish.  She is keeping up pretty well with her older siblings, but does find herself being left behind.  I think the "being left behind" is causing her to develop so much faster than the other kids did.

Bradon - We had two speech therapy appointments, and we love his pathologist.  He really is great with all the kids & I really like his methods.  He is all about hands on, conversation learning versus blowing whistles, asking questions, flash card learning.  His energy & personality match Bradon really well, and it is always a good sign when Bradon started mimicing him & playing with him right away.  He agrees with the conclusion every one else has made.  He is not seeing in signs or symptoms of autism or other disorders.  He also said that his vocal cords, and breathing look good too.  In short, he's not for sure why he isn't talking, but he is determined to get him talking quickly.  Bradon is up to about 25 words.  Of course when I say words, I don't mean perfectly pronounced ; they are rough around the edges & I'm hoping that therapy will help this.  He is also putting words together to form 2 - 3 word sentences.

Madison - She has grown & matured so much recently.  Matt & I find ourselves blown away by our little girl.  She is incredibly talkative and is capable of reading about anything you put in front of her.  Matt & I had discussed preschool, but felt it really wasn't the right fit for Madison.  She is already way ahead of where the preschool wants her and we felt that we could challenge her more at home than her being bored with learning things she already knows at preschool.  She is all ready for kindergarten next year & keeps talking about riding the school bus.  We were definitely struck by the realization that our baby starts school next year.  :(  How the time flies. . . . .

Matt - Matt is loving his job, and seems to be fitting in the office really well.  He loves that for the most part he gets home in time to eat dinner with us every night & that he isn't being harassed by work 24/7.   Obviously there are some long nights & occasional weekend work, but that comes with about any position in his field.  We feel very blessed that he has gotten this opportunity.  Matt recently attended a convention in Indianapolis, - where he learned how to prosecute OWIs (operating while intoxicated - for those of you not familiar) .  He really had a blast, learned a lot, and met a lot of other prosecutors.

As for me I have been making strides and facing the challenges of going back to school.  That's right - you heard it here first.  I'm going back.  I had originally planned on going back when Matt got out of school, but things/children happened and I have been putting it off.  I have finally bitten the bullet and am attempting to get everything to fall in place for starting in the Spring. If things don't fall into place then it might be a Summer/Fall start, but it will definitely be with in the next year.  I have decided to go into Criminal Justice.  My ultimate goal is to be a victim's advocate.  I did an internship in high school doing this and since that time it has been a huge passion of mine.  I always said growing up that I wanted to be an attorney to help people, but I think I've come to realize that the help & work that I want to do wouldn't be accomplished by going to law school. Obviously I wouldn't be going to work until after the kids get into school, but I want to have that degree before that time.

I'm sure I have a lot more to write about, but for now this is the basic family update.
