Updates

Wow!  I haven't updated since September.  Time really does get away from you this time of year. Considering I directed a whole bunch of people to our blog through our holiday letter I should probably update.

We have had lots of things happening around here since September.

Alana - She is pretty much running everywhere these days.  She loves her older brother and sister, but they have moments where they prefer the baby not to be around.  I have much more sympathy for my little sister these days.  She has finally cut some of her back teeth after working on them for a few months.  She jabbers nonstop now and her favorite phrase is "no".  Everything is no, unless you ask her if she wants to eat - then it is a enthusiastic "Yeah".  She definitely loves to eat and has a great appetite.  For the most part her brother and sister would rather her play by herself, but there are rare moments when the 3 of them will play together and it melts your heart.  You are then thrust back into reality by a "she has my toy and give it back" argument.

Bradon - How I wish you could hear him these days.  His therapy started and he just took off.  He talks all the time now and is saying 4-5 word sentences.  He is doing so well that they have decreased his therapy to once a month, instead of weekly now.  He is still struggling with annunciation, but his therapist said that would come in time.  You have to practice and the reality is he has only been talking for a few months now.  His therapist conducted a language sample on him and it showed he was at 31.5 months.  At the time it was conducted he was 32.5 months.  They also take into consideration that all kids talk at different rates, so they said the average age was 31.5 with a range of 28 months to 34 months.  So that sample shows him as right on track.  His therapy will be completely discontinued when he turns 3, so we have started looking into speech therapy programs for him, but at this rate he may not need them.    Bradon has been struggling with ear infections and strep throat since the first of October.  He has had 4 separate incidents and 4 rounds of antibiotics.  They doctor said that with that many infections and with family history of ear tubes she wanted us to see an ENT.  The major problem (besides the infections themselves) is the ear issues could cause more speech delays or regression.  After a long discussion with the ENT, Bradon got ear tubes Friday December 28th.  He did remarkably well and the procedure was far harder on Matt & I than him.  We are already noticing that his annunciation is getting a little better, the doctor said that she sees remarkable speech improvement with kids that have received tubes after struggling with infections.  I really can't wait to see what develops.

Madison - Started Taekwondo and she is absolutely loving it.  She attends classes several days a week and tested for her first step orange belt on December 19th. .  She achieved her belt and we couldn't be happier for her.  We are very happy with the facility we chose.  They are very big on respect, attitude, and fitness.  They make the kids work very hard for their belts with progress reports from school, home, and in class participation.  Overall it is an amazing program and we couldn't be happier. Maddy is growing and maturing right before our eyes.  She has been reading for over a year now and we can't believe at the level she is reading.  We are looking at getting her tested to be in accelerated kindergarten program when she starts school next fall.  I know we sound like crazy "our kid is so special" parents, but we don't want Madison to get bored in school.  We want her to be challenged and want her to continue to learn and grow. Kindergarten/accelerated Kindergarten we could really careless, we want her to able to achieve her greatest potential.

Matt - He is doing really well.  He is keeping busy at work and has been gladly taking on all the responsibilities he can handle.    He had some much needed time off over Thanksgiving and right before Christmas.  Poor guy hasn't ever had a vacation longer than a few days.  I didn't know if he would adjust, but he managed just fine.  He is very much looking forward to going somewhere on a vacation in the near future.

That just leaves me.  I'm doing well.  I start classes January 14th, and I'm nervous, excited, and terrified at the same time.  It has been awhile since I was a student and the looming fear that I've lost the ability to be a good student is forever present.  My role as wife and mother, has overtook any other role that I once had.  I'm scared that balancing everything will be a huge struggle and that something will fall.  I know Matt will be there to catch everything before it hits the ground, but I'm not used to needing or asking for help.  Matt keeps reminding me that it is only a year and that surviving three years of law school has prepared us for this.  Thank God for my wonderful husband.
