Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving in our house is usually spent all over the place. Out of the seven Thanksgivings Matt and I have had together we have spent six in Minnesota and one in Illinois. This year we made the decision that we would be staying home on Thursday to be able to finally cook and spend the holiday in our own house.

Matt and I had intended on getting up early so we could get our 19 pound turkey into the oven and have dinner ready to be served by noon. However, like most of our plans they never really work out. Bradon decided that he was on a feeding frenzy through the night and we both had been up with him at all hours. When the alarm went off at 6 am we both decided to just shut it off and wake up later. The kids got us out of bed at 8am and then we finally got the turkey into the oven.

I had done most of the prep work on Wednesday, so this left little to do on Thursday except finish side dishes and the turkey. We spent the morning watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade and Madison was incredibly excited to see a lot of her favorite characters in balloon form. We spent a little time Skyping with Brandon, Michelle, Barb, & Larry, they were celebrating in Minnesota. Though we missed seeing everyone we are glad we stayed in Indiana, besides it is much warmer here. We finally ate dinner around 2 pm. We had turkey, dressing, carrots, sweet potatoes, hot rolls, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, french silk pie, and pumpkin pie. Needless to say we had way to much food, but leftovers were great!

After dinner we all took a nap and spent the rest of the afternoon just relaxing.

Friday after Thanksgiving we had intended on getting our Christmas tree, but considering that it had rained 3-4 inches on Thanksgiving, it really wasn't an option to go to a tree farm. I worked on baking hot rolls and a cake for our Thanksgiving in Illinois on Saturday. Matt did work a couple of hours, but overall the day was just spent doing not much of anything.

Saturday we got up really early to get to Illinois. Everyone had decided to do our big Thanksgiving at my grandma's house on Saturday. It really was a great day hanging out with everyone and eating amazing food. As always there was plenty to choose from. Everyone got a huge kick out of the kids, especially Madison. They spent awhile just asking her to say things; like after she wrecked her toy car off of the table they were getting her to say claims adjuster and higher deductible. It was pretty hilarious and Madison always the performer played along. The day really went too fast and on the way home we decided we really need to get over more often.
