Madison has probably undergone the most since my last update post.
She is still going to tae kwon do, and absolutely loves it. She is on her 2nd step camouflage belt and steadily moving up. She is getting to the point where she is doing and remembering her routines pretty well. She is still adjusting, but should be ready to transition into the older class after her 6th birthday.
Another big event in Maddy's life is that she started school. She loves her teacher and loves going. Hopefully this feeling lasts for a little while. She does have to get up early and catch an early bus, however she is a morning person so this hasn't been a problem.
We had a parent teacher conference and she is excelling in every aspect. She is reading at a 2nd-3rd grade level, so her teacher has assigned her different reading assignments to keep her engaged. She also basically knows everything that they want her to know at the end of Kindergarten. We were concerned that this would bore her, but her teacher is doing a really good job of adapting to keep Madison interested and learning. There will be testing towards the end of Kindergarten that could place her in an accelerated program, which we will look at doing if the opportunity arises. Matt and I are both against her skipping grades, but are open to accelerated programs.
The school had its first field trip a few weeks ago and went to the pumpkin patch. Madison was so excited, but did accidentally get a pumpkin that was kind of rotten. It exploded in her book bag on the way home from school. She was devastated and I was completely grossed out. I didn't think that would ever get cleaned up.
Maddy also was invited to her first birthday party. Her best friend invited her and three other girls to her party at Chuck E. Cheese. Madison had a great time, and loved buying her friend a gift. She had a great time, but was pretty upset to run out of tokens and to leave and come home.
We had a little issue with a little boy on the bus hitting and bullying Madison and another little girl. However, Madison stood up and then told us about the problem. She was upset, because the other girl was much smaller and couldn't really stand up for herself. After Madison told us about the problem we went and talked to the little girl's mom and to the school. The problem seems to be resolved now. We couldn't be prouder of Madison about this entire situation. 1.) She didn't use her tae kwon do to fix the problem 2.) she told us 3.) she stuck up for the other little girl. Nothing could make us prouder.
