Day 9 - Leaves

The house we are renting has several massive maple trees, along with a few other large trees.  This time of year the leaves get so deep and thick you can't mulch them.  The mower just pushes them around.  This year the county has a leaf contract, so they will be coming through to vacuum up the leaves.

We spent all day today, raking leaves.  The kids spent the entire day riding their bikes and then jumping in the leaves.  We then re-raked the leaves.  It was a great day, and we got a lot of work done.  However, one tree in the yard (the biggest) has just started loosing leaves.  After working the entire day the yard looked pretty decent, until a wind front came through blowing a whole bunch of leaves off of that tree and out of our piles. The yard now looks like absolutely nothing was done to it.

Matt and I decided when we buy next summer that we will be looking for a house with no trees, small trees, or evergreens.  We are over the leaves and at this rate looking forward to snow.  Though the kids did have a lot of fun.
